Jan 31, '06 Virginia House Bill 1572 Would have allowed Virginia Tech students to protect themselves against the heinous murderer that killed 30 students today. Sadly it was quickly defeated by people who think like this guy:

Virginia Tech spokesman Larry Hincker was happy to hear the bill was defeated. "I'm sure the university community is appreciative of the General Assembly's actions because this will help parents, students, faculty and visitors feel safe on our campus."

Some of the dead were not only prevented from defending themselves (and potentially saving many other lives in the process) but were prevented from fleeing their lecture hall because many of the double doors were chained shut.

Well, perhaps, like Mr. Hincker said, at least they "felt" safe.
