A bill that took the Senate 10 hours to read on the floor and would have instantly turned us into France, even as France is trying to make conservative reforms, has been stalled at least for now.The minimum effect was an additional tax on gas of 53 cents per gallon!! The trickle-down of that would have been disastrous.

UPDATE: Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) is trying to make political hay out of the issue, saying that "Bush-McCain Republicans" blocked the global warming bill. But McCain issued a statement read on the Senate floor that he would have supported the procedural motion had he been present.
