How do You Know if the Economy is Healthy?

I would like to see an index created to measure the true strength of the economy. It would work like this;

All economic articles appearing in the NYT are judged to report either positive economic news or negative economic news. Then, the page the article apears on is given a valu, with the front page equal to 1, next page 2, and so forth.

A positive article on the 4th page in is worth +4, a negative article on page one is worth -1. If these were the only two articles to appear in a given week, the economy would score a +3.

The further back positive economic news is, the more likely it is "true"., the further foward a negative article is, the more likely it is a "false" reading of the true status of the economy.

Call it the NYT economic lie index enumerator statisti, or NYTELIES
