David's Friend Goliath Michael Mandelbaum, Foreign Policy (January 2006)If America is an imperialist force recklessly destabilizing global order as so many world leaders claim, why has no one come forward to do something about it? Michael Mandelbaum, professor of American Foreign Policy at Johns Hopkins University, argues that there is a gap between what the world says about American power and what it truly believes. Though they have powerful reasons not to admit it, world leaders understand most charges against the U.S. are false and that the U.S. is a positive force in world affairs.
