Fed up with being endlessly told "the American people" have turned against the war in Iraq, Republicans asked the Democrats to show what they had in their hand and vote on a resolution to withdraw the troops. By a vote of 403-3, the House of Representatives wasn't willing to bet that "the American people" want to pull out of Iraq. (This vote also marked the first time in recent history that the Democrats did not respond to getting their butts kicked by demanding a recount.) The vote is all the more shocking because of what it says about the Democrats' motives in attacking the war — as well as alerting us to three members of Congress we really need to keep an eye on. The Democrats are giving aid and comfort to the enemy for no purpose other than giving aid and comfort to the enemy. There is no plausible explanation for the Democrats' behavior other than that they long to see U.S. troops shot, humiliated, and driven from the field of battle. They fill the airwaves with treason, but when called to vote on withdrawing troops, disavow their own public statements. These people are not only traitors, they are gutless traitors.

Dietary Flip-Flops:

B. Decaf coffee may raise levels of harmful cholesterol

C. Being 'fat' may not be a health risk
IAN JOHNSTON
PEOPLE who are officially classed as overweight are not necessarily putting their health at risk and going on a diet could be dangerous, according to new research.
A row has been raging after a controversial US study earlier this year found that those deemed to be overweight - because of their high weight to height ratio - actually had a lower chance of dying prematurely than people whose weight was "normal". THEN Universal Health Care in England is discriminating against heavier people and requiring un-safe weight loss before allowing hip and knee replacements
. Boy! Science is SOOO reliable!!!! You'd think the anti-God crowd would be tired of all the flip-flops from their deity: Science.

Since the sexual revolution escalated forty years ago, morality in America has been in a state of rapid decline. In only four decades, we have gone from a country of traditional family values to a nation of widespread promiscuity, cohabitation, soaring divorce rates, and an explosion of sexual crime committed against women and children. How could things go so wrong so fast?
Many experts answer this question with two words: Alfred Kinsey.

The congressman at the center of the battle last week over withdrawal of troops from Iraq removed the results from his own Internet poll on the subject after online voters overwhelmingly opposed his stance.
Rep. Jack Murtha, D-Pa., posted the poll after he ignited a firestorm in the House that led to Republicans forcing a quick vote on the issue Friday.
While a revised poll page remains on the site, the link to it from his homepage has been removed, making the survey effectively invisible to the public.

Starting Wednesday, a major national television ad campaign will begin that features Iraqi Kurds thanking the United States for liberating them from Saddam Hussein. This is the message that has not been reported by the old-line media: the people of Iraq are happy that Saddam is gone and they want to say "Thank You" to America. The Kurdish region of Iraq is in the northern portion of that nation. Iraqi Kurdistan has been operating with a democracy for more than 10 years (their safety provided by 10-years of air cover by U.S. and British jets in the "No Fly Zone" in Iraq). Please - go watch these ads. The first one, "Thank You America" is the ad you will be seeing beginning on the Fox News Channel (running nationwide). And make sure you show this to everyone you know. Carter condemns abortion culture
While Mr. Carter has previously expressed ambivalence about abortion, his statements yesterday were "astonishing," said Robert Knight, director of the Culture and Family Institute at Concerned Women for America. "He has long professed to be an evangelical Christian and yet he had embraced virtually all the liberal political agenda," said Mr. Knight. "Maybe with Jimmy Carter saying things he never uttered before, more liberals will rethink their worship of abortion as the high holy sacrament of liberalism."

title: Congress Clashes Over Digital TV Conversion Deadline
written by: Naitze Teng
date: October 27, 2005

The Senate Commerce Committee approved legislation last week requiring television stations to switch their broadcasts from analog to digital by April 7, 2009. Current law stipulates that the transition be made by December 31, 2006 or once 85 percent of households have adopted digital television, whichever comes later. While the April 2009 deadline seems to delay the move to digital, the New York Times reports that less than half of homes now actually have digital signals so it could force the transition to happen sooner.

Still others are pushing for the conversion to happen even sooner given recent national disasters like Katrina and 9-11. Senator John McCain wants the conversion to happen by 2007, thereby freeing the analog spectrum for emergency officials. Of course television manufacturers would also like to see a closer deadline in order to drive sales up. The House Energy and Commerce Committee for one just approved a measure that goes against the Senate Committee’s decision, requiring television stations to end analog broadcasts by December 31, 2008.

For any advancement to take place, House and Senate need to resolve their differences. Both agree that not enough households have adopted digital television so far, but present very different solutions. The Senate bill proposes making three billion dollars in subsidies available to consumers purchasing conversion boxes to make their analog sets useable. The House sets aside substantially less for the same purpose; only $990 million which deterrents say just isn’t enough considering even households that currently have one digital television might also have multiple analog sets.

Pushing back the transition date just delays the inevitable. If given more time odds are lagging consumers will sit on it – they need a more pressing reason like losing the ability to watch television to compel them to get a new set.

WASHINGTON, Oct. 27 - Lawyers in the C.I.A. leak case said Thursday that they expected I. Lewis Libby Jr., Vice President Dick Cheney's chief of staff, to be indicted on Friday, charged with making false statements to the grand jury.

Karl Rove, President Bush's senior adviser and deputy chief of staff, will not be charged on Friday, but will remain under investigation, people briefed officially about the case said. As a result, they said, the special counsel in the case, Patrick J. Fitzgerald, was likely to extend the term of the federal grand jury beyond its scheduled expiration on Friday.

Target Corporation will continue to ban the Salvation Army from their 1,351 stores this Christmas season. The Army will not be allowed to place their red kettles in front of Target stores. Despite increased need caused by the hurricanes Katrina and Rita, Target continues to bar the Salvation Army. Many observers feel that the ban by Target is a result of pressure put on the company by homosexual groups. Homosexual activists have targeted the Salvation Army for years because of the Army's refusal to recognize their lifestyle. Target is a supporter of various homosexual causes. While Target contributes to homosexual groups, the company publicly states that they will not contribute to any religious groups. For Target, homosexual organizations are worthy of financial support, Christian and Jewish organizations are not.

Estimates are that the Promise Keepers' rally filled the Washington D.C. mall with more than a million people in 1997!

Sheehan was scheduled to appear at noon on the front lawn of the Capitol. It couldn't be called a rally; just a handful of Washington supporters showed up on the lawn to join dozens of journalists. The real stars were the TV crews; 15 cameras were set up in a semi-circle in front of a bank of microphones where Sheehan would speak.
But noon came and went, with no Sheehan. A young man named Ryan Fletcher, from an organization called the Mintwood Media Collective, paced around, a cell phone to his ear, getting updates from the three buses in which Sheehan and her supporters were riding. Less well-known than Fenton Communications, which advised Sheehan last month during her protest near the president's ranch in Crawford, Texas, Mintwood describes itself as "a worker-owned and operated public relations firm born in the aftermath of the mobilization against the International Monetary Fund and World Bank in Washington DC, April 16th and 17th, 2000." During that protest, Mintwood boasts, it came up with "a comprehensive media strategy that succeeded in placing stories on the front pages of major newspapers, on local and national television and radio, and Internet information sites worldwide." It promises to do the same for clients today.

Murderous marchThursday, September 22, 2005
by Gary Bauer, co-chair, Stand for Israel
The disturbing images coming out of Gaza, now completely devoid of any Jews, should be a wake-up call to the “international community” as well as our own government. First, Palestinian mobs burned and sacked synagogues all over the Gaza Strip while Palestinian police stood by passively. Then, Palestinian gunrunners poured into Gaza from Egypt, bringing with them a flood of new weapons including assault rifles, hand grenades and anti-tank missiles.
Then, a few days ago, Act III of the Gaza horror story took place. Ten thousand gunmen, representing the notorious terror group Hamas, staged the largest armed demonstration in the history of Gaza. The “army” of terrorists cheered radical speakers who called for the complete destruction of Israel, the occupation of Jerusalem and death to all Jews. Incredibly, as of now Hamas will be permitted to take part in the upcoming Palestinian parliamentary elections, and some observers believe they could actually win or at least do very well. They already control many city governments in Gaza.

OK, I was wrong. I've completely changed my mind. The hurricane thing should have been completely a federal issue and not in any way local or state. I came to this point of view after witnessing New Orleans Police officers looting WalMart (Don't believe me? Watch this!). Clearly they are unequiped to handle this like any other state would have. Hell, had such a disaster happened in CA, the lib's would be calling for Arnie's resignation/recall right? Don't lie. You know it's true. Here Comes The Flood

When the night shows
the signals grow on radios
All the strange things
they come and go, as early warnings
Stranded starfish have no place to hide
still waiting for the swollen Easter tide
There's no point in direction we cannot
even choose a side.

I took the old track
the hollow shoulder, across the waters
On the tall cliffs
they were getting older, sons and daughters
The jaded underworld was riding high
Waves of steel hurled metal at the sky
and as the nail sunk in the cloud, the rain
was warm and soaked the crowd.

Lord, here comes the flood
We'll say goodbye to flesh and blood
If again the seas are silent
in any still alive
It'll be those who gave their island to survive
Drink up, dreamers, you're running dry.

When the flood calls
You have no home, you have no walls
In the thunder crash
You're a thousand minds, within a flash
Don't be afraid to cry at what you see
The actors gone, there's only you and me
And if we break before the dawn, they'll
use up what we used to be.

Lord, here comes the flood
We'll say goodbye to flesh and blood
If again the seas are silent
in any still alive
It'll be those who gave their island to survive
Drink up, dreamers, you're running dry.

-Peter Gabriel

An explanation of natural law and natural rights. Most of the old literature on natural law and natural rights, notably the writings of John Locke, has become incomprehensible because we no longer have the background knowledge of natural law that those writers assumed. This article makes the concept of natural law intelligible to modern people.
Natural law and natural rights follow from the nature of man and the world. We have the right to defend ourselves and our property, because of the kind of animals that we are. True law derives from this right, not from the arbitrary power of the omnipotent state.

Was the Founding of America rooted in the Christian heritage and natural law? Or, is it a product of the Enlightenment, infused with the idea of the perfectibility of man, and therefore inimical to the Christian conception of reality and to world view that natural law implies? Was the Founding fatally flawed in its origins? If so, are present day evils simply a logical working-out of this fatal flaw? Or do current maladies result from a fundamentally sound proposition gone awry? The answers to these questions determine whether America is founded on basic principles that are true or just — ones which we can unqualifiedly support — or whether republic is based on ideas that are false and unavoidably lead corporate and individual evil. If the United States is, as I believe it is, founded on the highest moral principles of any government that ever existed, then we owe her and the principles on which she was founded our grateful support. If, on the other hand, America is founded on principles that are malign, then we are actually complicitous in anything we do to advance America's two hundred-year-old experiment in democracy.
So, where does the truth lie? There is no denying that the Enlightenment influenced the Founders, but does a partial influence make American political origins solely a product of the Enlightenment? To answer this and other questions we have asked, we must grapple with yet another: How much of the Constitution is derived from concepts of the Enlightenment and how much implies the Christian world view and a respect for natural law? A close reading of the Constitution lends any fair-minded reader to the inescapable conclusion: divorced from natural law and Christian principles, the Constitution would be utterly incomprehensible — a philosophical mish-mash devoid of cogent argument, compelling moral vision, or unifying principles.
However, the proof for this thesis is somewhat indirect because there are no Christian principles per se embedded in the Constitution: rather, the Constitution is embedded in Christianity. The Constitution does not declare principles, it provides for their implementation. It considers the principles on which America is founded so self-evident it does not even name much less defend them. In its short Preamble the Constitution briefly mentions, without defining, justice, general welfare and the blessings of liberty, clearly indicating that these are commonly accepted ends.

The Christian idea of government was understood completely by the framers of the Constitution. In the preamble to the Constitution they stated their full intent: "We, the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America."
Because our government derives its power, its form and its very existence from Christianity and the laws of God, the modern attempt to secularize society and divorce government from Christianity spells destruction.

If you depend on the Government for all of your needs, you are going to be sorely dissapointed

The Federal Government's resposibility is for the nation as a whole. To expect a 24 hour Mobilization of the entire Government to assist inthe area is a complete and utter pipe dream. Instant and immediateevacuation and assistance is the purview of the Local and StateGovernments, more the Local. This is why we have the government we dohave.Yet, I listened to a recorded broadcast of Mayor Nagin's tirade on alocal radio station, and was disgusted. To hear this man, on who'sshoulders rested the responsibility, have the sheer gall to insult anddemand a quicker response from the federal government was sickening.Where was he before the Hurricane hit? My wife and I are avid newswatchers. We saw the Govenor of Louisiana ordering an evacuation. Yet, I didn't see Mayor Nagin reiterating that order? If I missed it,My apologises, he may have came on while I was at work. I didn't seethe New Orleans School Buses or Metro transportation moving peoplebefore the storm hit.No, he ranted and railed that since his community was black, theydidn't recieve the notice from the President.Where are the Libertarians in this fight? You have a man who insiststhat the Federal Government must be responsible for every city, townand village in the USA and you say nothing? I had assumed you werethe party who wanted to keep the Federal out of the State and Local. In the final analysis, we must find it wasn't the Federal Government, nor the State Government, who was lax in their service to the peopleof New Orleans. Thier own Mayor and Parish Governments betrayed them. For years we have known the levies weren't going to sustain a majorhurricane (Lvl 4 and 5). Yet no money, Local money, was placed intoreinforcing them. The Army Corps of Engineers has said the Leveeswere in poor condition. Apparently the Cost/risk ratio didn't justifymaintaining them. The Mayor and City Council of New Orleans gambledwith the lives of New Orleans residents and lost. They convincedthemselves that a Major Hurricane wouldn't hit them and didn't see thepoint in spending the necessary Millions to maintain them. Like everycasino, in Mother Nature's Casino, the House ALWAYS wins and NewOrleans has lost everything.I work with a man from New Orleans orginally and he was furious at theFederal Government for not upgrading the Levies. Who's responsibilitywas it? Not at the federal level.People, nothing in life is free. There is a balance to everything, good or bad. If we want a government that is largely locallygoverned, then we have to assume the responsibilty and burdens forgoverning ourselves. We can't accept the good, and then when it all hit's the fan blame the federal government.

Other presidents also have taken aim at the Corps' budget. President Carters' first veto came against a big water projects bill passed by a Democratic-dominated Congress. And
Top of Form 1
Bottom of Form 1
President Clinton squeezed the Corps budget as well. Doing so frees money for other White House priorities.

February 17, 1995
An Army Corps of Engineers "hit list" of recommended budget cuts would eliminate new flood-control programs in some of the nation's most flood-prone spots - where recent disasters have left thousands homeless and cost the federal government millions in emergency aid.
Clinton administration officials argue that the flood-control efforts are local projects, not national, and should be paid for by local taxes.
Nationwide, the administration proposes cutting 98 new projects in 35 states and Puerto Rico, for an estimated savings of $29 million in 1996.
Corps officials freely conceded the cuts, which represent only a small portion of savings the corps ultimately must make, may be penny-wise and pound-foolish. But they said they were forced to eliminate some services the corps has historically provided to taxpayers to meet the administration's budget-cutting goals.
July 22, 1999
In passing a $20.2 billion spending bill this week for water and energy projects, the House Appropriations Committee approved some significant increases in financing for several New Orleans area flood control and navigational projects.
The spending bill is expected on the House floor within the next two weeks.
For the New Orleans District of the Army Corps of Engineers, the panel allocated $106 million for construction projects, about $16 million more than proposed by President Clinton.
The bill would provide $47 million for "southeast Louisiana flood control projects," $16 million for "Lake Pontchartrain and vicinity hurricane protection," $15.9 million for the Inner Harbor Navigation Canal Lock on the Industrial Canal in New Orleans and $2 million for "West Bank hurricane protection -- from New Orleans to Venice."
Most of the projects received significant increases over what the Clinton administration had proposed. The exception: general flood control projects for southeast Louisiana, which remained at the $47 million suggested by Clinton. Local officials had hoped for double that amount.
February 8, 2000
For the metropolitan New Orleans area, Clinton's budget was seen as a mixed bag by local lawmakers and government officials. For instance, while Clinton called for $1.5 billion to be spent at Avondale Industries to continue building LPD-17 landing craft, his budget calls for significantly less than what Congress appropriated last year for Lake Pontchartrain and vicinity hurricane protection and for West Bank flood control projects.
September 29, 2000
The House approved Thursday a $23.6 billion measure for water and energy programs, with sizable increases for several New Orleans area flood-control projects. The Senate will vote Monday, but it may be a while before the bill is enacted.
President Clinton is promising to veto the annual appropriation for the Energy Department and Army Corps of Engineers
Can you believe it? The President didn’t foresee the levees breaking!
(President Clinton, that is.)

Quesetion: Knowing that we will all pay more, should the Insurance companies actuarial tables factor in the cost of liver transplants for alcoholics and lung cancer treatment for smokers when trying to decide what our health insurance premiums should be?

How about insurance costs for our houses because of those who dwell near an earthquake fault?

How about our tax dollars? Should we all pay more in taxes because of others reckless decisions? How about those who willingly live behind a giant wall that seperates their city from the Gulf of Mexico which looms yards above their homes?

To say that somehow, it should be the taxpayers responsibility to pay more taxes, and drain funds away from other necessarry programs just so others can dangle off a cliff in perfect safety is just stupid.

Private citizens have choices. They can live at the bttom of a big bowl, or not. They can donate money to the victims at the bottom of a half full bowl if they want.

But alas, the Blaim Bush First crowd lives on.

Experts: Global Warming Didn’t Cause Katrina

U.S. Companies Give Millions to Katrina Relief Efforts, but where are the other, more generous countries? My, they haven't responded with any self congratulatory aid.. At least not nearly as much as the US has. Sounds like the tables have turned. Oh wait, I didn't give them enough time to respond. Hmmmm, that sounds familir too! Oh yes, it's similar to the accusations leveled against Bush early in the Tsunami Relief funding.

US places 12th in aiding world's poor, report says

The report says Denmark is #1 with 89 cents per person each day in government aid, compare to the United States spent 15 cents per person each day in government aid to poor nations.

What the report doesn't say is that the United States is not a socialist government, and that while Denmark citizens spent 1 cent per person each day in private giving, US citizens gave (freely and without compulsion) 15 TIMES THAT NUMBER!

The unmitigated gall someone has for trying to GUILT we Americans into giving up our freedom in exchange for a system of government that would do our charitable giving through a tax and spend ideology (that we all know is the least efficient way to get things done). Keoto accord? Same idea. Screw them. We shot our wad on Tsunami relief and will probably suffer in New Orleans for it.

And do you think Denmark will pull through with their vast war chest of government generosity for our citizens (who gave until it hurt when others suffered, i.e. Tsunami Relief)? Hell no. Unfortunately for us, we have no way of convincing the rest of the insane world that our private dollars are just as valid as our tax dollars.

Pentagon Cites Many Successes of US Troops in Iraq

What are we to make of Mrs. Sheehan’s demand for a second meeting with President Bush? She claims she wants an explanation of why her son died, but she acknowledges that her mind is already made up. I have had enough with this mother of all mourners. But I will let her hang herself with her very own words, words that read like something right out of a Moscow-approved Communist Party USA propaganda pamphlet. This is an excerpt of a speech she gave Monday, as transcribed on the Web site of an outfit called Veterans for Peace, describing how she conceived of her protest (quoting verbatim):
"I’m gonna tell them, "You get that evil maniac [the president] out here, cuz a Gold Star Mother, somebody who’s blood is on his hands, has some questions for him."
And I’m gonna say, "OK, listen here, George. #1, you quit, and I demand, every time you get out there and say you’re going to continue the killing in Iraq to honor the fallen heroes by continuing the mission; you say, except Casey Sheehan.’ "
"And you say except for all the members of Goldstar Families for Peace’ cuz we think not one drop of blood should be spilled in our families’ names. You quit doing that. You don’t have my permission."
And I’m gonna say, "And you tell me, what the noble cause is that my son died for." And if he even starts to say freedom and democracy’ I’m gonna say, bullshit.
You tell me the truth. You tell me that my son died for oil. You tell me that my son died to make your friends rich. You tell me my son died to spread the cancer of Pax Americana, imperialism in the Middle East. You tell me that, you don’t tell me my son died for freedom and democracy.
Cuz, we’re not freer. You’re taking away our freedoms. The Iraqi people aren’t freer, they’re much worse off than before you meddled in their country.
You get America out of Iraq, you get Israel out of Palestine
(massive round of applause)
And if you think I won’t say bullshit to the President, I say move on, cuz I’ll say what’s on my mind."

9/11 Commission Covered Up Gorelick Warning

A 1995 memo from a top terrorism prosecutor warning that a directive by Clinton administration Deputy Attorney General Jamie Gorelick "could cost lives" is being concealed by the 9/11 Commission.

Compounding the cover-up, Gorelick herself was a prominent member of the Commission and refused to recuse herself from parts of the 9/11 investigation that covered the now notorious "wall" she erected that prevented intelligence and law enforcement agencies from cooperating in the war on terror.

FAMILY OF FALLEN SOLDIER PLEADS: PLEASE STOP, CINDY!
Thu Aug 11 2005 12:56:21 ET

The family of American soldier Casey Sheehan, who was killed in Iraq on April 4, 2004, has broken its silence and spoken out against his mother Cindy Sheehan's anti-war vigil against George Bush held outside the president's Crawford, Texas ranch.

The following email was received by the DRUDGE REPORT from Casey's aunt and godmother:

Our family has been so distressed by the recent activities of Cindy we are breaking our silence and we have collectively written a statement for release. Feel free to distribute it as you wish.

Thanks, Cherie

In response to questions regarding the Cindy Sheehan/Crawford Texas issue: Sheehan Family Statement:

The Sheehan Family lost our beloved Casey in the Iraq War and we have been silently, respectfully grieving. We do not agree with the political motivations and publicity tactics of Cindy Sheehan. She now appears to be promoting her own personal agenda and notoriety at the the expense of her son's good name and reputation. The rest of the Sheehan Family supports the troops, our country, and our President, silently, with prayer and respect.

Sincerely,

Casey Sheehan's grandparents, aunts, uncles and numerous cousins.

It's okay for Home Depot to buy my digitized credit-card receipts, says the privacy "community," to see whether I would be a soft touch for a riding mower. But if government agents want to see who has purchased explosive-level quantities of fertilizer, they should go store to store, checking credit-card receipts. Data-mining opponents would deny terror investigators a technology in common use in the commercial sector, simply because they think government should be kept inefficient to limit its power...Remember: data mining would only speed government access to records to which it is already legally entitled.
Critics blasted the failure to "connect the dots" before September 11, and that failure was certainly a major factor. But the ACLU and its allies are working to ensure that the government can never effectively connect the dots. The ACLU needs to be stopped before more Americans are killed.

McAuliffe: Hillary May Drop Out

Former Democratic Party chairman Terry McAuliffe is reportedly predicting that 2008 presidential candidate Hillary Clinton will drop out of her 2006 Senate reelection race if a challenger like Jeanine Pirro forces her to spend campaign cash earmarked for her presidential race.

"I had a conversation with Terry McAuliffe during the Republican convention," former top Clinton campaign advisor Dick Morris told Fox News Channel's "Hannity & Colmes" Wednesday night.

Story Continues Below

"And I said, 'Do you think Hillary runs for re-election to the Senate if she has a tough race?'"

According to Morris, McAuliffe replied: "No, why should she squander $30 million getting reelected to a job she doesn't want?"

A must read for ALL thinkers:
Phillip Johnson's Assault Upon Faith-Based Darwinism A modern monkey trial isn't what Phillip Johnson expected when he wrote a critique of evolution that launched intelligent design -- or was it?By Justin Berton
..."The very persons who insist upon keeping religion and science separate are eager to use their science as a basis for pronouncements about religion," he wrote...
...biologists have become so invested in the Darwinian worldview that they have ceased looking for contradictory evidence. "As the creation myth of scientific naturalism, Darwinism plays an indispensable ideological role in the war against fundamentalism," he wrote. "For that reason, scientific organizations are devoted to protecting Darwinism rather than testing it, and the rules of scientific investigation have been shaped to help them succeed."
Johnson regards scientists as today's reigning priesthood -- a monklike discipline that controls our culture's story of creation and protects its orthodoxy as ruling paradigms have done for centuries. "They are jealous of their power," he says. "They will do anything to protect it. If that means labeling someone like me as a Bible-thumper, then that's what they'll do. They'll say, 'You don't agree with evolution, therefore you believe in the Bible's account! You read Genesis literally!' Of course, that's the stereotype they want to preserve." ..
..."Part of what bothered me about the left ... was quite consistent with what bothered me later about Darwinism. It's the dogmatism, the insistence that everybody believe as they did." ..
..He eventually concluded that the naturalist's greatest accomplishment had been to deliver what the rationalists most wanted: a world without God...
..."And the desire was to be able to explain life without recourse to a Creator or any sort of outside force. The only test Darwin had to pass is that it is more plausible than any other explanation. The Creator is disqualified from the outset because the Creator would be something outside of science, and unobserved."
...It is often believed in intellectual circles, especially in the Darwinist circle, the people I'm debating, that the world is divided into two people: the people who have faith and the people who just reason. But this is a completely false idea about the world. Everybody reasons and everybody has faith." ...
...'The critics are religiously motivated and they believe in God and they're throwing their religion at us and they shouldn't be doing that, and they should keep that out of science,'" he says. "But being religious or antireligious is the same thing: It's a position about religion and God, and it goes beyond the evidence and into very confident assertions that are based more on personal convictions than they are scientific testing." ...
If they thought they had good evidence for something, and then they saw it in the Bible, they'd begin to doubt. ...
Perhaps Johnson's nonreligious critics have trouble taking him at his word because they don't understand the extent to which he believes that open intellectual inquiry will ultimately lead people to Christianity. Johnson believes this fundamentally: "We don't have to fear freedom of thought, because good thinking done in the right way will eventually lead back to the church, to the truth -- the truth that sets people free, even if it goes through a couple of detours on the way."
